| Hosting A Ride |
1. Plan ahead: check the
schedule and begin thinking about your ride at least a month in
advance if possible. Pick a date (Saturday or Sunday) and
email the MdVRA email list to let everyone know.
2. Work out your route for the ride via a map or mapping
software. Select a time to begin the ride. Pick a
meetup spot large enough for the group to meet (a parking lot or
shopping center with nearby gas). Plan for fuel breaks and
a stop to grab something to eat and stretch.
3. Try to include some interesting scenery or roads for
riding. Back country roads make for great rides and if
there are points of interest, please include them. Many
people are unaware of such things right in our local area.
4. If possible, take a Saturday or Sunday to pre-ride your
route. Clock the number of miles and time the ride takes.
This is the time to plan changes in your route. Consider
the possibility of several bikes having to follow the same
course. basically you are refining the ride course with
consideration for a group of bikes.
5. Prior to the ride, email the group with more detailed
information and encourage everyone to attend. Make sure
the webmaster has your ride details so that it can be posted on
the website and the forum. You should start making maps
and indicating your route to be passed out on ride day.
6. About one week prior to your ride, email the group to
give any last minute details and reminders to RSVP so that you
have an idea of the attendance for the ride.
7. The RSVP's will allow you to notify the officers of the
number of attendees. If you have planned to stop at a
particular restaurant or other limited place, you can notify
that establishment ahead of time of the group's arrival. |
